OPEN HAPPINESS

Coca-cola has been around for centuries now and each year they introduce a new slogan and advert that manages not only to capture our attention but makes us create priceless memories because we are opening the happiness every time we drink it.

While most would argue on how coke has managed to be a global brand that has lived through generations it goes without saying that they advertising has manage to attract the attention of millions from your celebrities and the random family. Every year it releases different advertisements on radio, television and on billboard I can only imagine the budget that has to be set aside for such a big brand but i can confirm that through they public relations practitioner they have generated free publicity, and now with the use of social networks like your Twitter and Facebook it is no surprise that Coke still remains dominate.Coke continues to stay relevant through sponsoring big events and by giving back to various communities in Africa. The public relations of the organisation must be doing wonders because according to Coca-cola has been the worlds leading brand and this just shows how traditional media has had the power to influence generation to generation, Social media only started to grow recent and coke is living proof that television and radio reaches millions whether literate or not the message interpreted is simple and the target audience can understand.

Do you think Coca-cola would have been a success if it only depended on social media and not use traditional media?Or it needs to use both?have your say

Traditional Media vs Social Media

Gone are the days where companies had only limited resources to get their brand known or pay for advertising, toady technology has changed all that and its no surprising that there is a strong competition between social and traditional media.
Above is a picture showing examples of social media and traditional media.

Companies across the world have ha similar ways of marketing their brands and that has been through traditional media, for many years advertisers would come up with ways to generate income for the organization that was trying to sell the brand and truth be known it cost lot of money it it was not guaranteed that there would be any profit. The difference between your traditional media and social media is that ,traditional media is your grandmother advertising where else social media requires someone who understands the internet as well as the language that is being used. With social media it if for free and the company gets to interact with the target audience and it becomes clear by the number of response that the Public Relations Practitioner will get whether the product that is being sold will succeed or fail,as for the tradition there is a certain time-slot on when the ad will be aired. According to http://www.smartplanet.com/blog/bulletin/coca-cola-reports-no-impact-from-social-media-8216buzz-surprise/15615  Coca-cola has 61 million followers on Facebook and 700 000 on twitter this is an illustration that companies still have a long journey to make until they figure out how much to monetize social media channels.

Have your say do you think that social media is as influential as the traditional media when it comes to companies advertising they brand?
