Traditional Media vs Social Media
Gone are the days where companies had only limited resources to get their brand known or pay for advertising, toady technology has changed all that and its no surprising that there is a strong competition between social and traditional media.
Companies across the world have ha similar ways of marketing their brands and that has been through traditional media, for many years advertisers would come up with ways to generate income for the organization that was trying to sell the brand and truth be known it cost lot of money it it was not guaranteed that there would be any profit. The difference between your traditional media and social media is that ,traditional media is your grandmother advertising where else social media requires someone who understands the internet as well as the language that is being used. With social media it if for free and the company gets to interact with the target audience and it becomes clear by the number of response that the Public Relations Practitioner will get whether the product that is being sold will succeed or fail,as for the tradition there is a certain time-slot on when the ad will be aired. According to http://www.smartplanet.com/blog/bulletin/coca-cola-reports-no-impact-from-social-media-8216buzz-surprise/15615 Coca-cola has 61 million followers on Facebook and 700 000 on twitter this is an illustration that companies still have a long journey to make until they figure out how much to monetize social media channels.

the new error is here,te revolution of new media.its our job as PR people to fully exploit it to its fullest potential to get an in-depth understanding of what it is really about and how e can use new media to manage public perceptions of our organisations.
ReplyDeletethe new media got alot of influence then the tranditional media because most people who buy newsapaper dont read ads and they dont even look at the advertising of page. in the social media most their target public got them on facebook, twitter, blog, etc. it give the companies a chance to talk to them direct without paying more money on advertising.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you guys times have changed and with the new generation addicted to their phones its important for organisations to adopt change or they will vanish.
ReplyDeletefor me credit be given to the traditional media, i know it's a new era of digatal media, but it wouldn't be what it is if it wasn't for traditional media. well for organisation to survive in this era is to adapt or the shift of using traditional media to digisl media
ReplyDeleteI know that and I am not taking it away people still use tradition media and without it we would have not know about coke or any other global brand but if you check sales have dropped and it is no longer what it used to be,newspapers are also found online now.
ReplyDeleteyhea just give it some credit, looking at tv, we come into knowledge of lot of products or services through tv advertising.
DeleteI personally still think traditional media still plays a huge role even when the social media is taking over.
ReplyDeleteYes It does i can list all the adverts i have seen playing from my childhood and they hard to forget im just saying saying that times have changed amd so have the technology 10 years to come the youth wont listen to the radio as the our parents used to we have WhatsApp,Twitter and Facebook, now its the organisations that have to come to us not the other way.
Deletetimes have changed and new media has taken over.this days people do not take much effort in getting news, they get news in just a split second.New media makes it possible for organisations to interact with their target publics, unlike traditional media where one would get a reply after two weeks or so.With the new media like facebook, whatsapp, bbm etc,one can get a reply in just a second.
ReplyDeleteTrue the great part about social media is that it is for free and there are no limitations of what to say.
DeleteJust to point out the obvious; there is not competition between social and traditional media. social media is drowning traditional media in such a way that old media outlets are considering closing shop or upgrading to the new trend.
ReplyDeletei have to say that social media is doing wonders..whether its a competiton or not what businesses want is to save money,if social media helps them do that so i say go for it
ReplyDeleteWell said but there should always be room for Traditional media because our oarents who do not understand use networks still rely on traditional media for news
DeleteWell I honestly believe that it is still 50/50, it is all dependent on the organisation's target public, if at all you are conveying a message to television heavy viewers you have to make use of the television and again when you convey a message to the youth you have to make use of social media. well it is no doubt that many organisations are adapting and starting to invest more on creating awareness by making use of social media.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think that social media is taking over although traditional media still has its effects. looking at the facts, how many of us still read newspapers? and i mean read not look at the nice pictures? We have news24 on or mobiles now and newspapers are dying slowly. the only platforms that i can say still have an effect are tv and radio but social media is definitely taking over.
ReplyDeleteTrue that girl old media is slowly dying people no longer use or rely on it for anything, even advertises no longer advertis using it they use new media. Truth be told who reads newspapers anymore not many, we have news on mobile ansd online. New media is taking over and it's about time we started accepting that and stoped bying newspapers because they are not that important anymore, who want's to read about something they alredy now and have seen on the internt?
ReplyDeleteWell I think that since times have changed and technology becoming more advanced, traditional media has not been forgotten about, however its been elevated to social media in order to keep up with changing times. Which in turn is more convenient, easier and faster.
ReplyDeleteYes and now they charging a fee for one to raed a newspaper online.
DeleteI disagree with this the fact that you still watch your Generations and Isidingo shows the power that traditional media has and don't forget that most adults can not use technology so they still buy your Daily Sun and Sowetan in short this is 50/50 they both dependent on each other.
ReplyDeleteSocial media is leading.
